Chimney Sweeping
Your chimney needs to be swept regularly to make sure it’s doing its job. Ask Stoves Installed for advice you on the frequency – it depends on the fuel you use in your stove, and how often and how long you burn it.
Even with smokeless fuel, soot and debris accumulates in the flue and on the flue lining. If it’s allowed to build up, there’s danger of it setting alight and causing a chimney fire, which is costly, messy and extremely dangerous. The accumulation of soot will also cause the effective diameter of the flue to be narrowed, so the gases can’t flow freely up the chimney. Your fire won’t burn so brightly, you’ll use more fuel for less heat, and you may have difficulty lighting the fire.

The proper cowl at the top of your chimney will allow the smoke and fumes to escape, but prevent down-draughts that stop the fire burning properly.
